Description

This workshop, hosted by the Grosse Point Artists Association, is for artists at every level who want to explore ways to incorporate encaustic into their artwork, or have worked with encaustic before and want to have a deeper exposure to a specific technique.

The technique for this session will be encaustic monotype printmaking, or creating a one-of-a-kind print. This involves using encaustic paint directly on a heated surface, laying paper over the paint and burnishing the back, thereby making a print. Demonstrations will be combined with ample time for independent work, with an instructor available for assistance, giving you a chance to explore the materials and tools for this technique.

The equipment, supplies, and materials, including different papers (a packet of several sheets, approx. 10” x 12”), will be provided. However, you may consider also bringing in some additional papers with which to work. If you are new to this kind of printing, I suggest trying thinner printing papers (like Rives BFK), or rice papers, in light or neutral colors.
