Description
Art : Dialog is an opportunity for you to gather with other Detroit-area artists to talk about “all things art” and to share your work with other, like-minded artists. The meeting is free and open to anyone interested in connecting with artists.
The featured topic for the first part of the session is “Obstacles”. What obstacles do you face in your art practice? We all hit bumps, find ourselves stuck or blocked, or get sidetracked at one time or another with life issues like grief or caregiving.
Recently, we’ve been hearing and reading about one particular obstacle that can creep up and rob us of our creative energy—limiting beliefs. These are things that people tell us, or we tell ourselves, and start to feel they are true. For example:
- Making art is not important enough
- I don’t have enough time to do art
- I’m not talented enough
Do any of these resonate with you? Do you think they are true? We don’t! Let’s discuss what some of our obstacles have been, or we might be facing now, and share ways to reframe and counter them.
We’ll have ample time for conversation and networking during the break. And if you choose, bring one or two pieces of your work to share with us or to ask for honest, constructive feedback from the other artists during the balance of the session.
You’ll also have the opportunity to see “The Files on Gutwald Emargut”, an exhibition of conceptual art curated by artist Marat Paransky. It challenges the viewer to understand and appreciate the concept or idea involved in the artwork and to let it take precedence over the traditional artistic aspects.
Please RSVP by registering so we can be sure to have enough seats (and snacks) for everyone. Also, indicate if you plan to bring work to share. And don’t forget to invite another artist to attend with you!
