BIG INK: Epic Printmaking Workshop | May 2–3, 2026

Are you looking for a new creative challenge? Would you like to try a different medium for your drawing or painting ideas? Are you ready to learn relief printmaking in a big way? BIG INK is returning to Color | Ink Studio on May 2-3, 2026 for an Epic Printmaking Workshop!

First, you’ll learn how to carve a woodblock at home with the Woodblock Printmaking Online Master Class. Printmaker Lyell Castonguay will guide you through over two hours of pre-recorded video instruction. Follow along as he demonstrates how to carve a woodblock at home and use the resource links to purchase recommended materials.

Then, you’ll join us for an expertly guided printing experience. Meet Castonguay in person and learn how to apply ink to your woodblock and press it onto paper. He is an award-winning illustrator and teacher who founded BIG INK in 2012 to inspire others to work on an ambitious scale. The mobile printing press, The Big Tuna, is legendary, and it has produced thousands of impressions. You can take the Tuna’s reins and snap a selfie!

Beginners and artists in other mediums, as well as those looking to raise their printmaking skills to the next level, are encouraged to apply! Some artists have participated in BIG INK numerous times; some are just starting their journey. You can be inspired by what others create and connect with a community of like-minded individuals. Browse the work from our last workshop in 2024 for examples of what others have created! Two or more artists working as a team are also welcome as a way to share the costs.

Workshops are subject to cancellation because of insufficient enrollment or for other reasons. If a workshop is canceled, you will have the option to receive a partial refund or transfer your registration to another workshop within the same year. Otherwise, registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to another location.
