Color | Ink Studio & Gallery is excited to celebrate the launch of Love and Other Incurable Ailments by Detroit author Linda K. Sienkiewicz.

Set on North Carolina’s Ocracoke Island, the novel follows Serenity Tomczyk, a professional overthinker who finds a box of discarded love letters. Her fixation on the stranger who wrote them leads her into chaos, complications, and the dismantling of her carefully managed life, which may be the best thing that could happen to her.

Creating Serenity was my way of bringing a complex and imperfect character to life. She is more than her struggles. She’s smart, impulsive, determined, judgmental and completely human. Her anxiety and fears don’t define her, but they influence how she moves through the world, and that tension becomes the emotional arc of the novel.

With Melinda LePere as host, Linda will be in conversation with Dorene O’Brien. They’ll talk about the story, the inspiration behind it, and the real-life island that captured her imagination. There will be time for questions, book signing, refreshments, and bookish goodies, too! Books will be available for purchase from Book Beat. The event is free and open to the public, with free parking in the adjacent lot and on the side streets.

Linda is the author of the novels In the Context of Love and Love and Other Incurable Ailments, the picture book Gordy and the Ghost Crab, and 5 poetry chapbooks. She writes for anyone who’s ever felt like too much and not enough in the same breath. Her work blends humor, vulnerability, and a deep understanding of how grief, uncertainty, and connection shape our lives.

Join us for an evening of books, conversation, and a little island magic!
