Art : Dialog “Successful Entries”

Art : Dialog is an opportunity for you to gather with other Detroit-area artists to talk about “all things art” and to share your work with other, like-minded artists. The meeting is free and open to anyone interested in connecting with artists.

The featured topic for the first part of the session is “Successful Entries”. Many artists enter their work into calls for juried shows or approach galleries to gain broader visibility. We’ll discuss the key steps for success with entries and share tips with each other on what it takes to get your work accepted. 

For example:

• Where do you find calls for entry by shows and galleries?
• Can you anticipate what the juror will like in selecting work to enter?
• Does the quality of the image actually affect the decision?

We’ll have ample time for conversation and networking during the break. And if you choose, bring one or two pieces of your work to share with us or to ask for honest, constructive feedback from the other artists during the balance of the session.

You’ll also have the opportunity to see “Dream Journals”, a solo exhibition of mixed-media assemblages by artist Larry Zdeb. He has been called the “Master of Found Objects and Personal Mementos”. What many see as trash is treasure to him, and he creates incredible assemblage pieces from discarded and antique items.
