Description
Join us for a visiting artist special event with Vicki Engling, a book artist from Ann Arbor, who will be teaching a one-day workshop on making simple, but elegant handmade artist books.
In the workshop, you will create three book structures that demonstrate various beginning bookbinding skills. You will first sew a simple single signature booklet using the pamphlet stitch and enclose it into a soft wrap cover with a ribbon closure. Next, you will practice gluing and folding techniques to make a hardcover book with folded pages that pop out into a starburst shape when opened. The last book will utilize a combination of skills learned in the making of the first two books. You will create a single signature booklet, but sew it into a hard cover using a decorative drop-link stitch.
The papers and supplies needed for the workshop are included. Materials to make the books will be pre-cut and provided on the day of the workshop. You will receive in advance of the workshop a short list of additional supplies you may like to bring with you.
