May 2–3, 2026
Public Hours: 1–4 pm each day

Color | Ink Studio & Gallery welcomes BIG INK back to Hazel Park on May 2–3 for a weekend of epic printmaking.

BIG INK partners with organizations throughout the United States to co-sponsor woodblock printmaking workshops. Participants carve their woodblocks in advance and bring them to the meeting location. These gatherings showcase the work of a dozen or more artists. Carving a large-scale woodblock requires countless hours of work. Everyone involved enjoys seeing the finished prints as they’re produced. You can support the artists who create beautiful pieces and celebrate artistic expression by attending.

Watch as we apply ink to the surface of a woodblock and lay a sheet of paper on top. Then, we use The Big Tuna, a custom-made, portable etching press. to apply pressure, transferring the ink to the paper. Unlike typical equipment, which weighs several tons, our press is engineered for transport. The result is a woodblock print.

The public is invited to attend the Epic Printmaking Demonstration on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 2–3 from 1–4 pm. It’s free, and visitors will have the opportunity to see The Big Tuna in action and meet the participating printmakers. Light refreshments will be available. There is free parking in the adjacent lot and on the side streets.

Visitors also can get a takeaway print. Select a mini woodblock design and a volunteer will print it on sticker paper for you! Mini blocks are pressed using The Anchovy, a 3D-printed etching press developed by the Open Press Project.
