April 10–May 3, 2026
Opening Reception & Book Release: Friday, April 10, 5–8 pm
Artist Talk with Cheryl Barill: Thursday, April 23, 6–8 pm

Maus Haus Gallery presents “Fulcrum“, a solo exhibition of work by Zak Curtis. It opens on April 10 and runs through May 3 at Color | Ink Studio in Hazel Park.

Fulcrum: “a quiet point of leverage that makes movement possible”

“I like fulcrum because a lot of the paintings in the show will highlight tiny moments in my travels. The good memories and friends that we meet along the way. Without these happy moments the trip would not be worth the effort in my eyes, so I think it’s a great way to convey the importance of those little moments in time. The moments also grounded me when away from home and everything rests upon those little moments.”

In the exhibition, Zach brings a combination of his still life canvases as well as trip images to allow the viewer to be part of the travel experience. Zach is known for his large murals, usually involving shoes or boots along with flowers, but he also creates dynamic images that convey a story on the wall. Creating paintings helps to bring those images into visitors’ hands and engage with the work in a more intimate setting.

Zach lives in Detroit and is known for work that blends strong technical ability with personal storytelling. Since childhood, Zach has used art to process the world around him, often incorporating meaningful objects and moments into his paintings. His work has been featured in public spaces and galleries across the U.S., as well as internationally in Taiwan, France, Quebec, and Mexico. Beyond painting, Zach is a passionate mentor who shares his experience with aspiring artists in his community. With a style that feels both accessible and refined, Zach continues to push creative boundaries while staying grounded in storytelling, emotion, and connection.

The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Friday evening, April 10 from 5-8 pm. It’s free, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet Zak and discuss his work. Light refreshments will be available. There is free parking in the lot and on the side streets. Then return for the Artist Talk “Secrets of the Studio” with Cheryl Barill on Thursday evening, April 23 from 6–8 pm.

Once the show opens, visit MausHausGallery.com/online-preview to view the available work online. The Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 1 to 5 pm, and at other times by appointment. Contact Cheryl at MausHausGallery@gmail.com with questions or to make an appointment.
