Description
Join Melissa Valenti and Teresa Loman in the studio on Saturday, April 5 from 12-4 pm to learn the traditional technique of Pysanki egg decorating with a twist. Add unique designs that will brighten up your Easter table decor.
Pysanki Eggs are traditional Eastern European Easter eggs created by “writing” on the egg with hot beeswax using a pysachok or kistka tool. The word Pysanki (or Pysanky/Pisanki) is derived from the verb ‘pisac’ which means ‘to write’. Designs rich in symbolism and folklore are applied to the egg in hot wax. This wax acts as a resist for the dye. A layering process of writing followed by a dye bath can create exquisite designs after the wax is removed.
In this workshop, you will learn the basics of the ancient art as well as have an opportunity to experiment with other techniques and ideas. It will begin with our instructors giving an overview of this technique followed by a brief demonstration. Bring a snack or light lunch for a brief break after the demonstration. There will be enough time to create a couple decorated eggs along with final preparation and drying so you will be able to take the finished pieces home. All materials will be provided.
Space is limited, so don’t wait! And register before Saturday, March 22 to receive $10 off the regular cost of $35.
