February 5-27, 2026
Opening Reception: Thursday, February 5, 5-8 pm
Artist Talk: Sunday, February 15, 11 am-1 pm
Maus Haus Gallery presents “Vesuvius“, a one-woman exhibition that features work by Jennifer Mones. It opens on February 5 and runs through February 27 at Color | Ink Studio in Hazel Park.
Jen is a surrealist oil painter living in Detroit since 2017. Jen earned her BFA in illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. She’s worked in various creative fields, including UX design and fine art. She has exhibited work in Los Angeles and throughout the Midwest.
The vibrant colors and tropical flora in her work stem from her roots in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. She combines that with instruments of surrealism and the macabre, to reflect on how absurd and bittersweet the human experience can be. Her love of storytelling is shown through symbolism and motifs from classic lore. To achieve harmonious color transitions, she uses a Venetian painting technique called “sfumato,” which involves thin layers of translucent paint working together.
The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Thursday evening, February 5 from 5-8 pm. It’s free, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet Jen. Light refreshments will be available. There is free parking in the lot and on the side streets. Then return for the Artist Talk on Sunday, February 15 from 11 am to 1 pm to hear from Jen and discuss her work in person.
