Join visual artist Candace Law in the studio on Saturday, November 7 from 10 am to 4 pm for a fun workshop using transparency to add depth and create one-of-a-kind encaustic artwork.
One of the compelling things about working with encaustic paints is the depth and luminosity you can achieve. This is accomplished by using very fluid, thin layers of color that allow light to enter the painting and reflect back through the layers of wax. Using thick, opaque layers creates a totally different look and feel.
This workshop is about exploring transparent colors or thinned-out layers to build up our paintings, especially with photo images, collage materials or other embedded ephemera. It is a slower, more intentional way of working with the wax.
Demonstrations are combined with ample time for independent work and one-on-one assistance, giving you a chance to explore some of the materials and tools of this versatile medium. This workshop is for artists at every level who want to learn about ways to incorporate encaustic into their artwork, or have worked with encaustic before and want to have a deeper exposure to a specific technique. Newcomers to encaustic are welcome, too!
The equipment, supplies, and many materials are provided. To make your work more personal, feel free to bring small items, such as decorative papers, found objects, and other ephemera.
