Relief Print Exhibition

Exhibition: May 10 – 19, 2024
BIG INK Event: Saturday & Sunday, May 18 & 19 at 1–4 pm

Color | Ink Studio & Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of relief prints in conjunction with BIG INK 2024. The week-long special exhibition highlights the art of relief printmaking by artists participating in the BIG INK event. A variety of techniques will be on display in the show, which runs from May 10-19, with prints available for purchase.

Relief printing is a family of printing methods, such as woodblock and linocut, where a printing block, plate or matrix is made subtractively by removing material from the surface of areas not intended to be printed. Ink is applied to the non-recessed surface and is brought into contact with paper. The non-recessed surface will leave ink on the paper, whereas the recessed areas will not. A printing press may be used or the back of the paper can be rubbed or pressed by hand with a simple tool such as a brayer or roller.

The public is invited to attend the BIG INK event on Saturday & Sunday afternoon, May 18 & 19 from 1-4 pm. It’s free, and guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the process and meet the artists in person. Light refreshments will be available. There is ample free parking in the lot and on the side streets.
