Seeds of Inspiration

New Work by Celeste Roe

October 3–31, 2025
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 4 at 2–4:30 pm

Color | Ink Studio & Gallery is pleased to present “Seeds of Inspiration,” a solo exhibition of new work by printmaker Celeste Roe. It opens Friday, October 3 and runs through October 31.

The public is invited to attend the Artist Reception on Saturday afternoon, October 4 from 2–4:30 pm. It’s free, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet Celeste and discuss her work in person. Light refreshments will be available. There is free parking in the adjacent lot and on the side streets.

“The majority of the work in this show is based on my fascination with seeds and seed pods. I am interested in their shapes and the potential they hold to unfold into something new,” according to Celeste. “The inspiration for my work comes from the elements of nature that I see or find to be interesting. When I work with them, I am reminded of the connection we have to all things. The print is a result of these connections and the experiments in the studio.”

The show features many original, hand-pulled prints not previously exhibited. “We’re delighted to be able to include new work that highlights Celeste’s creativity and obvious love of printmaking”, says Gallery Director Candace Law. “The shapes she uses and the wonderful ways they are combined into a finished print will make this an exciting and not-to-be-missed exhibition.”

Celeste is a printmaker/mixed media artist who has lived in the Detroit area since childhood. Earlier in life, she studied science at Cass Tech High School and architecture at Lawrence Technological University, where she received a Bachelor of Architecture. She then worked for the City of Detroit as a city planner for 9 years.

While staying home to raise a family, Celeste began studying art at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC). She discovered printmaking in a painting class when students were encouraged to use the paint remaining on the palette to make a print. After several years of study, she taught an Introduction to Printmaking class at the BBAC. Celeste lives in Farmington and exhibits her work locally.

“I enjoy all aspects of making prints, from creating the plates to mixing inks, and experimenting with layering different plates and colors,” Celeste explains further. “There is a certain mystery involved in making prints, in that all the work is created on the plate, not on the paper. It’s not until the paper is placed on the plate and run through the press that the image appears.”
